Did You Know.....

The emerald is a Beryl with Chromium/Vanadium, giving it a luxurious green color. A characteristic of the emerald is the "garden", or naturally occuring inclusions of liquids, solids, and gasses. These are not to be confused with flaws, which are actual fractures or cleavage planes. The "garden" is nature's handwriting, a signature of genuineness in the emerald. Also typical is the irregularity of facets. It may be said then that what is a defect in a diamond, is a virtue in an emerald. It is also common to oil emeralds to enhance their appearance, usually done as a post-lapidary process in the country of origin. This is acceptable in the gem industry as long as no coloring agents are used. On the scale of 10, the emerald has a hardness of 7 1/2 to 8 and will cut through glass and steel. Geologically, emeralds are far rarer than diamonds.

  PEARLS FROM THE QUEEN CONCH

Ranging from dark Saturn Gold to Magenta and Lavender, with Pink the most prevalent color, they occur only in one of 10,000 conchs. Conch Pearls are formed from the Spanish Main north to Bermuda. Tougher and harder than other gem pearls, they have a natural high luster requiring no polishing. The pink pearls are referred to as "evening jewelry" because of the fading effects of ultra-violet rays on its organic components. Most desirable are those that evidence the "flame structure". Shapes will vary from round, oval and in rare instances, tear-drop. Conch pearls are sold by the carat. They are not cultured.
